SMICS in partnership with Peninsula Health is pleased to offer this cancer care education program comprising 10 education sessions. Sessions will be uploaded here as they become available.

Episode 1: Introduction to Cancer Care
An overview of cancer as a disease process; including epidemiology, cell physiology, carcinogenesis, treatment options and side effects using the patient management frameworks to map a patients journey through their cancer treatment
Episode 2: Supportive Care
Informative session that will give you an overview of supportive care and how and why we need to screen people with cancer for physical and psychosocial needs
Episode 3: Cancer Emergencies
This will aim to provide participants with an overview of the definition, cause, clinical features, Dx tests & medical & nursing Mx of emergencies that usually occur with solid tumours and Haematological malignancies.
Episode 4: Psycho Oncology: Survivorship and Late Effects
An overview of the psychological issues confronting people with cancer, how to help and the role of the Psychologist
Episode 5: Palliative care and pain management
Introduction to palliative care and bereavement. When should Palliative care clinicians be access for people with cancer
Episode 6: Radiation and Chemotherapy
Clinical management of side effects relating to chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment, how it impacts your patients and how to best care for them
Episode 8: The management of side effects from cancer treatment and multidisciplinary care
Clinical management of side effects relating to chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment, how it impacts your patients and how to best care for them
What is an MDT, who attends MDT's why they are best practice
Episode 9: Allied Health and Wellness
Care needs for people with cancer from allied health point of view. How to best assess allied health needs
Episode 10: Safe handling of cytotoxics and patient education
An introduction to principles & theory of safe practice related to administration & ongoing Mx of cytotoxic drugs, including S/E & pt education
